Metroid 5 as I would like to see it:
It would be a 2.5-D (2D gameplay, 3D graphics) sidescroller on the DS,
Taking place after Metroid Fusion (as it would have to, since Fusion is Metroid 4).
The main antagonist is the Federation, and the side antagonist is Sylux. The Federation, Samus, and Sylux are all against each other.
The final boss is some kind of genetically-altered version of the Queen Metroid from Metroid 2, which of course would be genetically altered by the federation, since they were revealed to be experimenting with genetically engineering Metroids. Despite the fact that the last Metroids were supposedly destroyed at the end of Metroid 4. Plot device!
Samus would obviously still have the fusion suit and her newest ship. Might be a good opportunity to create new alterations for the suit.
I'd also be super-happy if it was named Metroid Dread.
Will any of this happen?

Okay but.. wasn't it confirmed that by the end of Fusion Metroids were completely wiped out? I mean if the federation were experimenting on them, then they wouldn't specifically need the captured Metroid to heal Samus to begin with if they already had a Metroid 'farm'. I just don't see it working.
From that same paragraph:

Like I said, by the other factors I mentioned I don't think that idea would really work.
I too have wanted a 2D Metroid that continues where Fusion left off. Ah, well. We can only hope for the best with Other M.
I'd like a 2D sequel to Fusion, too. I was fond of the idea of the parasites she absorbed somehow being able to escape from her body and having the player fight mutated versions or multiple copies of bosses from Fusion. Maybe I just want SA-X as an antagonist again, I dunno.
